What lies underneath
Posted by: Your EcoKids Program Manager in Environmental Issues, WasteAs the snow slowly melts all over the country, we are beginning to see all the garbage that it was covering – squashed coffee cups, pop cans, paper, cigarette butts and so on. Is this supposed to be the first sign of spring in Canada?
Since this is Earth Month, your school or community is probably undertaking some sort of environmental activity and it is likely to include a community or school yard clean-up. But wouldn’t it be great if people just didn’t litter in the first place so we can focus our “green” efforts on other, more interesting projects than picking up garbage from the ground that could have been thrown in the garbage, recycling or compost bin? Projects such as a “walk to school” event, planting native trees and flowers, holding a swap event or even hosting an environmental green art exhibit! All of these projects are so much more interesting than picking other people’s litter.
So let’s do our part in not littering and letting others know that littering is no longer acceptable if you see it happening.

u don’t have to recycle just on earth day. do it evry day! if u walk a mile down an average US hi way, u will see approxmitly 1,500 pieces of litter!!!! DO NOT THROW UR TRASH AWAY!!!! u can recycle cans, glass, plastic, paper and loads more. it’s not hard; just rinse it out and give it to the local recyclers. start 2-day, people!

We don’t like people littering our lawns. There are a lot of kinds of garbage thrown out and they take a long time to disintegrate. Some of the garbage is dangerous – like broken glass and stuff that our pets might eat. It is a very ugly sight. People should put the garbage where it belongs.

The worst is when people dump their car ashtray out while sitting in traffic. I can’t believe how rude!
