Inspiring Lifelong Environmental Stewards
We believe that outdoor play is an important pillar of environmental education. By fostering a meaningful connection to their local environment through outdoor play, children are more likely to grow into lifelong environmental stewards. Outdoor play also helps children develop the knowledge, skills, and characteristics needed to address larger environmental challenges such as climate change and sustainability.

Position
Access to active play in nature and outdoors—with its risks—is essential for healthy child development. We recommend increasing children’s opportunities for self-directed play outdoors in all settings—at home, at school, in child care, the community and nature.
